High School Announcements  (Grades 9-12)

Principal Note for High Schoolers: Parent/Teacher Conferences for Junior High and High School students will be held on Monday, February 17, and we encourage parents to attend and connect with teachers. Grade checks will be handed out on Monday at conferences. Please also be aware of possible winter weather conditions throughout the week. The school will monitor the situation closely and communicate any schedule changes as needed. Stay tuned to school texts and phone calls for updates, and thank you for your continued support.

Counselor Note for High Schoolers: This week, I visited with all of the incoming Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors.  They completed a survey letting us know which classes they would like to take next year.  I also provided them with a Grade Check Sheet.  If you have questions, or would like a copy of their Credit Check, please do not hesitate to email me and I can have one available in the office or email it to you. 

Club Announcements: 

FFA

  • FFA Week is here! The FFA Officers have worked so hard to plan an exciting week for everyone! Here is what the week will look like.

    • Sunday, February 16th: Join us as we kick off FFA Week by attending church at Hurley Community Baptist Church. Members please be there by 10:30 am and wear Official Dress if you have it, if not dress nice. 

    • Tuesday, February 18th: Country Roots & Cowboy Boots, come to school dressed as a farmer or cowboy.

    • Wednesday, February 19th: Join us in our FFA Community Breakfast in the Ag Building from 6:30-7:30 am. Please be at the ag building to help cook and serve by 5:30 am. The theme for the day is Sow the Blue, Harvest the Gold, wear an FFA shirt or blue and gold. 

    • Thursday, February 20th: Hidden Harvest, come to school decked out in camo gear. There will also be an FFA Emblem Scavenger Hunt during school.

    • Friday, February 21st: Hit the Hay, wear your PJs to school. FFA Members join us in going to Urban Air to celebrate National FFA Week. Permission slips are due by Wednesday, February 19th, the bus will leave at 5:30pm.

  • Contest if interested please talk to Ms. Hance ASAP.

FCA

  • 2/19 Meeting in Mrs. Wertz room at 7:00 AM.

  • 4/12 Basketball in Springfield and ice cream at Mrs. Wertz house.

Counselor Note for Jr. High: For those who came to the informational Middle School Quiz Bowl meeting, we will have our first practice on Wednesday during High School RTI (for 6th grade, that will be from 10:49-11:20) in the library.  I am so excited to take the Middle School students to such a fun and exciting event.  If you could like more information and/or missed the meeting, please reach out to me at kslater@hurlytigers.org

Teacher announcements for Jr. High Core Subjects: 

7th grade ELA (Knight): Students will be finishing up their summative assessment for their unit on consumer culture and beginning their unit on argumentative writing.

7th grade Reading (Lumpkin): Next week, seventh-grade students will learn to trace and evaluate an argument while analyzing “Remarks at the Dedication of the Aerospace Medical Health Center.”

7th grade Math (Conlee): Students will be working with circles and be introduced to Pi. 

7th grade Science (Hampton):  Please come to parent conferences if you get a chance.  Call and sign up!!  Students are working on our unit of nature and ecology this upcoming week!!!!!

7th grade Social Studies (Donnell): We are finishing up the unit on Europe and beginning the unit covering Asia.

8th grade ELA (Knight): Students will be concluding their summative assessment for their unit on Anne Frank’s Legacy and beginning their unit on argumentative writing. 

8th grade Reading (Lumpkin): Next week, eighth-grade students will learn to identify and analyze a compare-and-contrast organizational pattern while reading, “The Funeral of Abraham Lincoln and the Manhunt for Jefferson Davis.”

8th grade Math (Conlee): Students are introduced to systems of linear equations. Throughout the topic, students graph systems of linear equations in two variables, estimate the coordinates of the intersection point on the graph, and verify that the ordered pair is a solution to the system. 

8th grade Science (Hampton):  Please come to parent conferences if you get a chance.  Call and sign up!!!  Our 8th grade class is working on motion over speed and acceleration in the science world.

8th grade Social Studies (Donnell): Students will finish the unit covering Europe and the next  week start the unit on Asia.
