High School Announcements (Grades 9-12)

Counselor Note for High Schoolers: Seniors, continue to work on your FAFSAs. If you have any questions, please stop by my office. Those that are taking the ACT in February, please make sure you are studying with the ACT coursework on your account and continue to prepare.

Jr. High Announcements (Grades 7th & 8th)

Counselor Note for Jr. High: On Tuesday during RTI there will be a Junior High Quiz Bowl Informational Meeting. If you think you are good at trivia or just know a ton of random facts, Quiz Bowl might be for you. Please come on Tuesday to find out more.
Teacher announcements for Jr. High Core Subjects:
7th grade ELA (Knight): 7th grade will continue examining nonfiction texts analyzing the impact of consumer culture on society. We will continue working on identifying the main idea, finding supporting evidence, and analyzing the author's purpose and tone.
7th grade Reading (Lumpkin):This week, seventh graders will focus on analyzing the elements of an expository essay and identifying its structure.
7th grade Math (Conlee): Students will have their first big test of the semester over writing and solving equations. We will be reviewing and testing.
7th grade Science (Hampton): We are wrapping up our Genetics unit and moving into Basic Ecology over energy, relationships, and interactions in nature.
7th grade Social Studies (Donnell): We are learning about the many countries in Europe along with history, culture, and geography.
8th grade ELA (Knight): Eighth grade will conclude reading the drama “The Diary of Anne Frank” and begin reading excerpts from the novel. We will discuss and highlight conventions of this form and compare and contrast them with the conventions of the drama.
8th grade Reading (Lumpkin): This week, eighth graders will learn how to identify and analyze the key elements of historical fiction while examining how authors create mood in a story.
8th grade Math (Conlee): Students will be working with linear relationships and focusing on slope and y-intercept.
8th grade Science (Hampton): As we finish our unit on forces/friction, we will now be moving into Motion. We will continue our study about displacement, speed, and acceleration. This unit will lead us into Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion.
8th grade Social Studies (Donnell): Students are learning about the history, culture, and geography of Europe.
