High School Announcements (Grades 9-12)
Principal Note for High Schoolers: We are excited to have the new semester underway and filled with fresh opportunities for learning, growth, and success. Counselor Note for High Schoolers: To all Seniors, a message was sent out with a link to the Class of 2025 Google Classroom. If you would like to be added to this Google Classroom or if you did not receive the email, please email me at kslater@hurleytigers.org. Great resources are going to be posted on this Google Classroom and if you are looking for scholarships or even needing to know how to fill out the FAFSA for trade school, that will be the place to go.
Club Announcements:
FFA
Concessions Feb. 4th and 14th, need a few students to help work. If you are playing you can come help when your team is not playing.
State Choir and Talent Applications are now open, if interested come see Ms. Hance as soon as possible. Applications are due Feb. 15th, but need to be completed before then.
Contest season starts March 1st, if you are interested in competing let Ms. Hance know which contest.
FFA Week is Feb 16-21, details are to come soon!

Feb 7 - Friday movie night from 4:00-6:00 “The Greater”.
March 8 - Basketball in Springfield from 2:00-4:00. Ice cream at Mrs. Wertz house.

Blood drive coming up on February 11, from 11:00-4:00.

Jr. High Announcements (Grades 7th & 8th)

Counselor Note for Jr. High: We are hitting the ground running after the snowstorm last Friday. Please be on the lookout for opportunities for your students through Burrell. We will continue inviting our friends from Burrell to teach our youth about all kinds of topics regarding relationships, social media, and the like.
Teacher announcements for Jr. High Core Subjects:
7th grade ELA (Knight): Seventh grade will continue exploring articles and studies surrounding consumer culture.
7th grade Reading (Lumpkin): This week, seventh graders will work on determining the theme of a short story and analyzing word choice and style as they read "Allied with Green."
7th grade Math (Conlee): Students will write and solve multi-step equations that contain the distributive property and combining like terms. Tutoring is on Tuesdays & Wednesdays after school until 4:45pm. Please contact Mrs. Conlee at kconee@hurleytigers.org if a different tutoring option is needed.
7th grade Science (Hampton): Welcome Back to a new semester!! The 7th grade is learning about basic genetics and using a punnett square for crossing genetic traits.
7th grade Social Studies (Donnell): Students will begin exploring Europe. European culture, geography, and history will be highlighted this week.
8th grade ELA (Knight): Eighth grade will continue exploring Anne Frank’s Legacy through reading the play and excerpts from the novel.
8th grade Reading (Lumpkin): This week, eighth-grade students will focus on identifying methods of characterization in a biography and analyzing the author’s craft while reading “Harriet Tubman: Conductor on the Underground Railroad.”
8th grade Math (Conlee): Students working with linear relationships and the slope of a line. They will analyze rising and falling lines and learn to graph lines given a point on the line and the slope of the line. Tutoring is on Tuesdays & Wednesdays after school until 4:45pm. 8th grade Science (Hampton): I am excited for a new semester!! The 8th graders are learning about forces, friction, and collisions in the sciences. We will also be doing some interesting formulas and labs during the semester.
