High School Announcements  (Grades 9-12)

Principal Note for High School: Testing results from Spring EOCs and MAP are ready. Parents will receive student scores at Parent/Teacher conferences on Oct. 21. We will start scheduling conferences soon. In the meantime, feel free to reach out to your child’s teachers for any concerns or questions. 

Counselor Note for High School: Please make sure you are looking at your email especially, Juniors and Seniors.  This week I sent emails regarding Bobcat Days to College of the Ozarks (if you are going, you need to be at school at 6:45 on the dot on Tuesday morning), the Monett College and Career Fair, and ACT Fee Waivers.  As always, if you have any questions feel free to email me at kslater@hurleytigers.org or call me at 417-369-3271 ext. 3327

Teacher announcements for High School courses:  

Biology class (Mr. Hampton):  We are working on macromolecules of life that lead us next into our cell unit.  Please remind students to take good notes as Biology is an important EOC tested class.  Thank you!!!!

Jr. High Announcements (Grades 7th & 8th)

Principal Note for Jr. High: Testing results from Spring EOCs and MAP are ready. Parents will receive student scores at Parent/Teacher conferences on Oct. 21. We will start scheduling conferences soon. In the meantime, feel free to reach out to your child’s teachers for any concerns or questions. 

Counselor Note for Jr. High: We are still waiting on getting our lessons with Burrell set up.  Something to look forward to in October is Red Ribbon Week.  Plans are already underway to make this year’s Red Ribbon Week the most impactful yet.

Drama Club: Rehearsal on Thursday 3:45-4:45

Teacher announcements for Jr. High Core Subjects: 

7th grade ELA (Knight): 7th grade is continuing our Risk and Exploration Unit looking at non-fiction texts about exploring space or the ocean. They have submitted Narrative drafts, which we will return to with fresh eyes in a week or two to begin editing and revision with gusto.

7th grade Reading (Lumpkin): Seventh graders will be completing the September Evaluate test this week. Students will also learn how to analyze and compare news stories about the same event from various sources. 

7th grade Math (Conlee): Seventh graders will be working with tables, graphs and equations alongside real world applications.

7th grade Science (Hampton):  Our school year is rolling…  We are working on the organization of our human body unit as we learn about important systems of the human.  Please remind your child to take good notes in science class.

7th grade Social Studies (Donnell):  Students have finished testing on the different state regions. On Friday they will test over all 50 states. They are continuing to learn about the United States and Canada.

8th grade ELA (Knight): 8th grade will be continuing our “Approaching Adulthood” unit from our Collections textbook. They have submitted Narrative drafts, which we will return to with fresh eyes in a week or two to begin editing and revision with gusto. 

8th grade Reading (Lumpkin): Eighth graders will be completing the September Evaluate test this week. Students will be learning how to use text features and graphic aids to analyze and understand a non-fiction text.

8th grade Math (Conlee): Students will focus on exponent rules, including negative exponents. They need to really focus on memorizing these rules. 

8th grade Science (Hampton):  Students are doing excellent work on the atomic structure of atoms.  Our next unit will jump the atoms into our periodic table. 

8th grade Social Studies (Donnell):
Students have finished testing on the different state regions. On Friday they will test over all 50 states. They are continuing to learn about the United States and Canada.
